NCSA Vision 2020
NCSA Vision 2020 outlines a strategic plan for the NCSA that will transform the center into a hub for transdisciplinary convergent research, education, and innovation by the year 2020.
The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) is a hub of transdisciplinary research and digital scholarship where University of Illinois faculty, staff, and students, and collaborators from around the globe, unite to address research grand challenges for the benefit of science and society.
The Center also provides integrated cyberinfrastructure—computing, data, networking, and visualization resources and expertise that are essential to the work of scientists, engineers, and scholars at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and across the country.
A continuation of NCSA’s 30-year tradition of innovation and revolutionary research, NCSA’s new vision for 2020 announces the center’s intention to:
- Transform into a world-class, integrative center for transdisciplinary convergent research, education, and innovation.
- Create the world’s most advanced digital environment that integrates large-scale computing, instrumentation, and data services
- Drive innovation, and economic, and societal impact for Illinois and the nation
The report announces NCSA’s change in direction to researchers, faculty, staff, University of Illinois administrators, and funding agencies and explains how it’s new goals will allow the center to strategically focus intellectual and financial resources on addressing research grand challenges for the benefit of science and society.
The cover for the booklet was inspired by supercomputer rack covers. Black paper was foil-stamped and laser cut to display over 500 images from NCSA’s archive. This creates the illusion that we are peering inside one of NCSA’s massive supercomputing systems to see the science being conducted within.
