The NCSA Supercomputing Coloring Book

The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) is a hub of transdisciplinary research and digital scholarship where University of Illinois faculty, staff, and students, and collaborators from around the globe, unite to address research grand challenges for the benefit of science and society.

The Center also provides integrated cyberinfrastructure—computing, data, networking, and visualization resources and expertise that are essential to the work of scientists, engineers, and scholars at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and across the country.

Project

For the annual Supercomputing Conference, the NCSA PA team wanted a giveaway item that would:

1. be easily packaged with our magazine or other print pieces
2. carry more messaging than the typical pen or stress ball.

A coloring book seemed like a fun way to spread the word about NCSA to people of ALL ages! Collaborating with writer Trish Barker and illustrator Dan Wild, I art direct the project, come up with creative concepts for illustrations, pitch ideas for subject matter, and transform illustrations into interactive educational activities.
