Client

The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) is a hub of transdisciplinary research and digital scholarship where University of Illinois faculty, staff, and students, and collaborators from around the globe, unite to address research grand challenges for the benefit of science and society.

The Center also provides integrated cyberinfrastructure—computing, data, networking, and visualization resources and expertise that are essential to the work of scientists, engineers, and scholars at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and across the country.

Project

The NCSA’s responsive website tells the story of the center’s ground-breaking research, bleeding-edge technology, and brilliant researchers and staff. A simple yet robust navigation structure allows users to easily find latest news, research opportunities, and support.

The site also highlights the NCSA’s research excellence to instill pride of ownership in University of Illinois faculty and administration, entice prospective faculty and staff to choose NCSA as their new home, and elevate the perception of the NCSA to peer institutions and funding agencies.

In addition to art directing the project, I took a lead role in project managing the redesign; pitching the design to stakeholders; researching technology; writing personas and user scenarios; and conducting card sorts, focus groups, competitive analysis, and ongoing monthly usability tests.
